The 'Björk' Pickup Set

CrystalTone Presents: The Björk Set
This set was built together with a player who already had a clear direction.
Instead of starting from a standard model, we sat down and worked through what he actually needed — where his current tone was lacking, and what needed to improve.
The goal was to build a set that feels balanced, clear, and reliable across all positions.
The build
Every part of this set was chosen on purpose.
-
Neck — 6.5kΩ
Voiced for warmth and clarity without losing definition in chords. -
Middle — 6.0kΩ
Slightly underwound to keep positions 2 and 4 open and usable. -
Bridge — 7.2kΩ
More output to handle gain, but controlled so it doesn’t get sharp or thin.
We used Alnico V magnets, selected specifically for this response, and each pole piece was hand-beveled to fine-tune the magnetic field and feel.
The wire, the wind, the balance between pickups — nothing was random.
Everything was adjusted to get as close as possible to the sound we were aiming for.
What matters here
This isn’t about hitting a vintage spec or copying a known set.
It’s about building something that actually works for the player.
That means:
-
choosing the right magnets for the job
-
adjusting output where needed
-
balancing the set as a whole, not just individual pickups
The result
A set that stays clear when it needs to,
pushes when you ask it to,
and feels consistent across the guitar.
No surprises, no weak spots — just a setup that does what it’s supposed to do.
Custom builds
This is what we focus on at CrystalTone.
Not just offering a list of pickups,
but taking the time to build something that fits how you play.
If you’re looking for your own sound instead of a stock solution,
we’re here to help you get there.
